Cockroaches
Cockroaches are one of the worlds  most commonly noted household pest insects. They feed on human food and pet food. They also leave behind a really offensive odour, and spread some diseases. There are 4500 types of cockroach, but only 30 species are associated with humans world wide.

Cockroaches passively transport microbes on their body surfaces including those that are potentially dangerous to humans, particularly in environments such as hospitals. Cockroaches can cause allergic reactions in humans. One of the proteins that triggers allergic reactions is tropomyosin. These allergens are also linked with asthma.

In the food industry such as restaurants, they can transmit other microbes that can transfer to human food, causing severe stomach upsets, which in some case can be fatal.
This then becomes a real health and safety threat which must be dealt with quickly.

The cockroach is one of the most hardy of insects, some species can remain active without food for over a month, and are also able to live on the most meagre food supply such as glue from postage stamps. They can also go without air for over half an hour.
